High‑low thread drywall screws are dual‑profile fasteners engineered to balance fast penetration, low driving torque, and strong pull‑out resistance for securing gypsum drywall to wood framing (primary) or light‑gauge steel studs (secondary). The alternating high and low thread crests reduce friction during installation while maximizing grip in the substrate, making them a versatile choice for both professional and DIY drywall projects.
Key Features
1. Dual‑Thread Profile (High‑Low Design)
High threads: Larger outer diameter, 30° thread angle, and sharper crests for quick cutting and initial bite into the drywall and wood stud.
Low threads: Smaller outer diameter, 60° thread angle, and shorter height (≈½ of high threads) for increased load distribution and pull‑out strength.
The combined design reduces driving torque by ~50% compared to single‑thread screws, minimizing drywall chipping and stud splitting.
2. Bugle Head
Tapered countersunk head sits flush with the drywall surface without tearing the gypsum core, enabling seamless concealment with joint compound for a smooth finish.
3. Sharp Self‑Tapping Point
Eliminates pre‑drilling in most wood framing applications (2×4 to 2×6 lumber). The tip penetrates drywall and wood efficiently, streamlining installation.
4. Material & Coating
Core material: High‑carbon steel (C1018–C1022) for strength and durability.
Coatings:
Electro‑galvanized zinc for standard indoor use.
Hot‑dipped galvanized (HDG) for humid areas (e.g., bathrooms, basements).
Black phosphate for corrosion resistance and a clean, paintable finish.
5. Standard Sizes
Diameters: #6, #7, #8 (most common for drywall).
Lengths: 1 inch (25 mm) to 3 inches (76 mm) — select based on drywall thickness (½–⅝ inch) and stud depth; aim for ≥¼ inch thread engagement in the wood stud.
